Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up living in New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. 1976 Mitchell was hired by WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). Within two years she joined NBC News as a Washington correspondent. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was promoted to chief congressional correspondent by 1988. In 1992, she was appointed Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News. Mitchell was a guest in the TV news show Meet the Press as a host and panelist. Mitchell also participated as a panelist in the debate in 1988 among George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan a former chairman the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism for the John F. Kennedy School of Government. And in 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) recognized Mitchell for her contribution in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered for the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during both Ronald Reagan's terms as President. The reporting she did included plenty of important stories like the Iran-Contra controversy, budget and tax reform and also the issue of arms control. She traveled widely along with President Reagan during summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
